(04/09/10) Do The Right Thing

Well, we watched Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing" (1989) and I'd say that if you want a better picture of racial tensions between African Americans and Italians, then go watch "A Bronx Tail" (1993) set twenty years prior to "Do The Right Thing" but from the perspective of the Italians. In this way we learn something more by having it in the perspective of the racist character who learns something and becomes a better individual. Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing" completely does the wrong thing. All I could think at the end of the film was how a few individuals completely in the wrong destroyed the livelihood of a man who's pizzeria had been a neighborhood favorite for years. Sal's Pizzeria is destroyed, yet it is his son who is the only racially intolerant character. They riot against Sal's Pizzeria, yet it is the cop who shoots Radio Raheem. Where is the justice in that? Where is the love yall? I don't even know. Where's the truth yall? I don't even know. Where's the love yall? People killing people dying. Children hurtin you hear them crying. Can practice what you preach, would you turn the other cheek? Father father father help us. Send some guidance from above cause people got me got me questioning where is the love?

The film could have ended like this:
